Gun down cartoon monsters in a haunted house

Monster Strike: FPS Shooter is a free shooter game with a Halloween atmosphere. Take your gun to complete a series of missions in a house filled with monsters. Complete enough missions, and you will go up against a boss monster.

There are many horror-themed FPS titles, like Zombie Assault: Sniper and Dawn of the Undead - The Zombie Shooter and Survival Game. However, this one stands out with its wacky cartoon aesthetic. The enemy monsters even look like brightly-colored Muppets.

Marines versus monsters

Monster Strike: FPS Shooter takes place in a haunted house and the surrounding area. You play as a gun-toting marine and must battle a gaggle of cartoon ghouls. Some missions involve killing all monsters, while others require you to track down and kill a specific variety of monsters. Still, others are based on collecting items.

Power up your fighter

The game includes a number of power-ups. Unusually, these are not collectible icons. Instead, they are given to you at the start of the level to be activated later. One power-up freezes your foes, another boosts your speed, and there's also one that powers up your bullets. Which power-ups you will receive depends on the level.

Elements from other games

Monster Strike freely borrows elements from other games. For example, the first boss is the killer train from Choo Choo Charlie. As a result, there is a graphical clash between the superhero-like player characters, the Muppet-like minor enemies, and the horrific bosses.

Strengths and weaknesses

Monster Strike: FPS Shooter is a basic shooter, but it's solid for those looking for a free FPS. The settings lack variety, but you can unlock new weapons by watching adverts. However, it does have some genuine oversights, including the absence of any kind of on-screen health bar. You have no way of seeing how badly hurt your character is.

PROS

  • Range of weapons
  • A variety of mission objectives

CONS

  • Settings are repetitive
  • No on-screen health bar
